Did you know?

The Bible talks of the earth as a circle.

Right through the bible, not just in Genesis 1 it is stated that God created the heavens and the earth e.g. Exodus 20v11; Psalm 104v24; Jeremiah 10v12; Matthew 13v19; Acts 4v24; Revelation 14v7.

One of the things that help us accept the bible is true is that it is so often proved correct! This helps us believe that it is indeed inspired by God i.e. it is the word of God (see 2Peter1v19-21).

A good example of this is how the bible describes the earth. The Old Testament of the bible can be shown to have existed 150-250 BC and claims to date back much earlier. Information from these early times show that people had many different ideas as to what the earth and the universe were like. When Christopher Columbus sailed to the West Indies in 1492 most people thought the earth was flat. Today people have sailed and flown around the world and seen the planet from space. But look at these descriptions of the earth from the Old Testament. Imagine people were reading this when they thought the earth was flat!

See Job 26v7Isaiah 40 v 21-22;

If only they had thought about what the bible actually said. Hindsight is easy - no doubt in the future we may well discover similar mistakes. We should prayerfully read God's word asking him to open our minds to help understand what he is saying and act on it.

Acts 17 v 24-28.
